Juniors & Junior Match Fishing
Our Society is proud that it has an active and growing Junior Section. It also has a full match calendar for those who want to be a little more competitive!
All matches are held in a casual and fun atmosphere and, dependant upon ability, Juniors can be given as much help as is necessary by their parent/guardian during a match. The minimum that is required is for the junior to hook the fish and bring it in. If a landing net is required, assistance can be given. As Juniors progress and become more proficient, they are expected to do more for themselves to the point where they can fish on their own.
The main point of contact is Graham Smith who is the Junior Match Secretary. Graham can be contacted on 07742 924967
Graham has a 1st4Sport Level 2 Coaching Qualification L2CCA. He is also 1st aid trained and in-line with our Child Protection Policy, has undergone a Disclosure Barring Service check (DBS).
The Society's other qualified coach, Michael Cummins (1st4Sport Level 2 Coach - Qualification L2CCA) has also undergone a DBS check and has been 1st aid trained.
Both Graham and Mike have passed the 'Sports Coach UK - Safeguarding & Protecting Children' Course.
Oliver Zebedee-Howard is our Child Welfare Officer (assisted by Roy Ashworth) DBS check in progress for WVAS (Already carried out for Rochdale Rugby Club - Juniors)
The match calender for 2021 can be opened using the link in the side bar. Once opened, please scroll down to page 2. Hopefully 2021 will be another great year for our Junior section with even more new members hopefully fishing the matches. The Junior Club Champion will be decided on a points based system with10 points awarded to the winner of each match, 9 points for second place, 8 points for 3rd place etc., etc. These points will be totalled up over all matches fished, with the winner having the most accumulated points.
Following the success of the Junior outing in 2019, we have decided to return to the same venue, once again in 2020! This will be held on Saturday the 19th September on Lake 3 at Bradshaws Fishery and is open to any junior who has fished a match in 2019, with their guardian. This is a free event and includes peg fee and breakfast! Have a look at the photo's and video from last year - Junior Outing 2019
Once again, we will encourage some of our Juniors to apply for the GURU Academy at Partridge Lakes. Plenty of tuition, goodies and to round off the day, a 3 hour match. To apply, you do have to be self proficient. Date to be announced.
We will endeavour to communicate whether a match is on via the 'Latest News' page.
We are pleased to announce that the New Junior Champion for 2020 is Alex Sunderland. He finished off in style by winning the last match of the season with this cracking net of fish.
